Chev Festival 2006

We would like to give a big THANK YOU to the Chevrolet Club of New South Wales, especially Denise Roughley (President of the Chev Club of NSW) for a professionally organised 30th National Chevrolet Festival, held in Merimbula, NSW (22-25 September 2006).  Everything went smoothly with a few exceptions

On Saturday, the 2 cruises back home were great.  John Fenato enjoyed his way up front there somewhere, while the rest of us were content to drive along and admire each others cars.  After a hearty meal of 5 schooners at little Cadelo Pub with big Johnny, Michael Rich, Charlie Pace (and mates) and Towertons (and locals - Shane and Chris Goddard - who were mostly helpful with Charlies 57 convertible with a busted wheel beering) drove back into potential strife with the local breath test unit on a cruise around to Pambula.  Luckily their sense of humour developed after they tried to test Charlie's front passenger, Tony, who they thought was driving (left hand drive chev).  So everything was cool even though we all recorded low range they were really taken with John Fenato's 55 coupe, Charlie Pace's 57 convertible and Billy and Sandra Towerton's 57 Belair.  Very refreshing to come across 2 jovial coppers.

The show and shine day, Sunday, started off cloudy with occasional gusts of wind and spurts of rain drops, but that didn't stop all those beautiful chevs coming out on display on the cliff edge of Werimbula Beach.  Our club was well represented and the chevs looked stunning as always.  It was a great day.  Most of the guys were the judges and the women folk were in the cabins sipping cups of coffee.

The Presentation Dinner brought a lot of noise from the Fenato table (who else??) as the table started to win the awards.

The awards won are as follows:

1956 Anniversary Award  - Gary & Kay Wright

2nd Runner Up, 55-56-57 Best Modified - Gary & Kay Wright

1st Runner Up, 55-56-57 Best Modified - Richard Mifsud

55-56-57 Best Modified - Joe & Carmen D'Alfonso

Best Modified  Exterior - Gary & Sue Turney

Best Modified Overall - Michael & Kay Gregorace

From the weekend we discovered that:

  • Sandra Towerton had corns
  • Joe D'Alfonso was speechless
  • Richard Mifsud did have hair under that hat (albeit mostly grey)
